All exists because they work very well. Any video camera can be used for digital cinema; there really are no rules. A filmmaker’s individual aesthetic sense is the only criteria. Camera options can be divided into four categories: digital cinema cameras intended to replace film as an acquisition media, high definition (HD) video cameras, standard definition (SD) progressive scan cameras and standard definition interlaced (NTPC and PAL) cameras.
