more about Progressive Standard Definition Cameras

DVCPRO is Panasonic’s professional version of the DV format and uses 4:1:1 color sampling. DVCPRO-50 doubles the data rate and uses 4:2:2 color sampling. Both of these formats are recorded at 60 fields per second. When the camera is operating in a progressive capture mode, the progressive image is recorded into both the odd and even fields that are normally used to make an interlaced frame. Operators have two choices of how to record 24 frame progressive images on tape. The industry standard pull down arrangement was developed to make extracting 24 frames from a 60i recording easier using desktop video editing software.
